The Charm Hummingbirds and Feline Community

In nature God provides servants for our pleasure and to nurture joy in our hearts.  If we are in a state of joy, it is accelerated. If we are tumbling down the abyss of forlorn, nature can lift our spirits towards the heavens—-where really what else matters.   Nature is a piece of heaven our heavenly Father gifted us during this temporal time on earth.

But nature is not heaven, there are perils in nature.  Cats and birds cannot coexist.

The cunning cat will pretend all is well, but just turn you back and the hunter shows his true colors….or latent tiger stripes and will attack, kill and devour our feathered friends.   Sylvester and Tweetie cartoons showed truth in animation.

We enjoy the beauty of both creatures—a sleek beauty of cats and our favorite hummingbirds.

We encourage you to enjoy the beauties, but here are a couple suggestions and fun information for success in feline/hummingbird coexistence.

  • We use inexpensive feeders—they work great and are replaced annually.
  • Our favorite feeders have a little ledge so the hummingbird can rest while eating.
  • A group of hummingbirds is called a charm  (does it get any better?)
  • Once you have a charm visiting your spot, keep the food maintained so they stay.
  • You can hardly help it, but listen to a charm—-they communicate in a charming way.

***Most importantly, hang your feeders where cats are unable to catch a bird (yes, cats absolutely catch hummingbirds, and it is heartbreaking). ***

Simple Charming Hummingbird food.——a hummingbird's delight

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 quart water

Combine, shake or stir until dissolved. Fill feeders and place outside.

We keep a batch ready to go…and enjoy our charm so much they are a part of our daily chores.

Thank-you Heavenly Father for the gentle servants you have provided.   As stewards we will care and enjoy every creature, and we look forward to the day we can live with all creatures, with the joy of serving you.   Amen

Our Family Prayer

God bless this for now we take.
For doing good for Jesus' sake.
Amen

This little prayer is our special family prayer. My Grandfather learned it when he was a little boy, then Mother Judith, them my sister and I. Every holiday, my Grandfather would sit at the head of the table and ask one of his Grandchildren to say the prayer, every once in a while he would say it himself.

Initially as a child, this prayer seems to say we earned this food because we were good. However it is saying the opposite, we are to use this food to do good for Jesus.

Do you have any family prayers?
